Chiropractic Care from Birth

Birth is beautiful and transformative for both the birthing person and baby. Physical and emotional stress is a normal and expected part of the parenthood transition. As your baby is born, significant pressure and forces are being exerted on your baby’s body, whether the birth is vaginal or c-section. Introducing Chiropractic Care from birth can help encourage optimal growth and development.

We all experience the world through our nervous system (brain + spinal cord), so it is vitally important to get evaluated by a Chiropractor. During the first year of life, over 65% of babies’ neurological development occurs. This is a crucial window in development where babies grow and change at an incredible rate. A healthy nervous system allows for the fullest development and expression of life. For these reasons, having your baby checked within the first year of life is an excellent time to ensure your baby’s nervous system is functioning optimally to best support their optimal growth and development.

Many parents (Dr. Natalie included) have their children’s nervous system checked regularly to support a healthy lifestyle and ensure they can develop to their full potential.

Shortly after her second daughter’s birth, Dr. Natalie required Manual Osteopathic interventions to breastfeed successfully. Dr. Natalie developed an interest in expanding her professional skill set to successfully support parents and babies bodyfeeding and meet their goals, especially after lip/tongue ties have been diagnosed and/or revised. Complementary Care

A complement to Chiropractic care is Craniosacral therapy, traditionally performed by a Manual Osteopath. The Craniosacral system protects and nourishes our brain and spinal cord, helping to release fascial restrictions anywhere in the body that may be impeding this vitally important system. Together, these systems work to regulate our autonomic nervous system, which is designed to rest, digest and heal 80% of the time (parasympathetic function) and call us to action (sympathetic function) 20% of the time.

Unfortunately, many of us can get stuck in a fight/flight pattern called sympathetic overdrive because of chronic stress or even babies experiencing birth trauma. When this occurs, our system isn’t able to optimally adapt, and health may be compromised if left unchecked.

Traditionally Chiropractors focus on caring for the nervous system, and Manual Osteopaths focus on the Craniosacral System. More recently, we see further collaboration between the professions as both Chiropractic care and Craniosacral therapy is gentle and safe interventions for taking care of the nervous system in people of all ages but specifically in babies who struggle with breastfeeding.
